The primary purpose of out breed is the control of livestock in both wide open and confined spaces. The herding committee of the ACDCA's function is to promote and preserve the natural working abilities of the Australian Cattle Dog. The committee discusses and makes suggestions to the rest of the club and fancy on herding related issues. Herding committee members will try to make themselves available to individuals to promote the working Australian Cattle Dog. The committee also takes the responsibility of conducting two herding trials each year on cattle at our national specialty.
January 2006 Committee Report:
We have increased the membership of the committee this year to insure that we have geographic diversity and input. At this time, Alison and I want to welcome our new members, Rebecca Elder, Adrian Lopez, Suzanne Nevada, and Ellen Beasley. The primary goal of this committee is to promote the working ability of the ACD and to provide guidelines and leadership for the Herding Trials at our National Specialties. Committee members are encouraged to be active regionally in the promotion of more AKC cattle trials and instinct testing, as well as the education of judges in the working style and abilities of the ACD. In addition, we generate “Cattle Call” three times a year in the club Quarterly. This column is to answer questions that are asked about all aspects of herding as it applies to the style of the ACD. Suggestions for subject matter are always welcome.
The sport of herding is growing rapidly, with more and more participants and trials. At the same time, the caliber of training and the skills of the handlers improve, peaking the competitive spirit instilled in the fancy. The next two years look to be exciting and challenging, and Alison and I look forward to working with our great team.
Respectfully,
Susan Crocker & Alison Deilke, Co-chairs
